Sony CES 2025 innovations

Sony Showcases Advanced Tech at CES 2025

Sony unveiled cutting-edge technology across mobility, sports, and content creation during its keynote at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture launched in 2022, announced that its first electric vehicle, the Afeela 1, is nearing market readiness.

The concept car, initially revealed two years ago, now comes with a starting price of $89,900 (€86,500). Reservations are open in California, with deliveries expected by mid-2026.

The Afeela 1 boasts 800 TOPS (trillions of tera operations per second) computing power and 40 driver-assistance sensors, enhancing safety and convenience.

“Afeela’s AI perception enables accurate recognition of surroundings, while its AI planner creates optimal driving strategies,” said Yasuhida Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility.

Sports and Virtual Production Innovations

Sony also introduced a collaboration project for sports—a coach headset powered by Horizon’s 5G network. The headset aims to improve communication and efficiency and is set to debut during the 2025 NFL season in the US.

In addition, Sony presented a groundbreaking virtual production system called PXO AKIRA. This tool allows filming of vehicles without requiring on-location shoots.

PXO AKIRA employs robotic camera cranes, motion platforms, and LED displays to replicate dynamic settings. This technology reduces production costs, enhances safety, and broadens creative opportunities.

“It rotates 360 degrees, synchronising with virtual environments on LED screens for a lifelike experience,” explained Johnny Slow, CEO of Sony subsidiary Pixomondo.

3D Asset Creation with XYN System

Sony also revealed the XYN system, a tool that transforms objects and spaces into high-quality 3D digital assets.

“From films to games and the metaverse, XYN captures real objects and spaces, rendering them into 3D CG assets using images from a mirrorless camera,” said Thaisa Yamamura, head of XR Business Development at Sony Electronics.

The system uses algorithms to optimise generation time. Users can also integrate motion data into scanned assets via an app.

With these announcements on CES 2025, Sony underscored its commitment to innovation, pushing boundaries across multiple industries.
