A Greyhound bus crash on May 26 left 39 people injured on Highway 70 East near Jackson, Tennessee. The crash occurred at about 6:48 p.m. and was called a “mass casualty incident” by Madison County Fire Rescue. Emergency teams took 27 people to hospitals. Others were treated at the scene.
The bus was traveling from Memphis to Nashville at the time of the crash. Greyhound confirmed that 34 people were on board, including 32 passengers, one driver, and one relief driver. Thirty people were taken to the hospital, but most were released later. It is not yet known if the other injured people were from the bus or from other vehicles.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Agencies that responded included the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and MedCenter EMS. As of May 27, officials had not released any new updates. People were asked to stay away from the area while emergency work continued.
Greyhound said it is working with the authorities and providing help to everyone affected by the crash. Emergency services said they are focused on helping the injured and managing the site safely.
